Ty Reflection

So for my blog challenge, I'm writing a reflection on Ty as whole. Prepare for the cheese!

So let me just say first that overall, I am glad that I did it, as much as I complain. At the start of the year, it was so exciting, no more exam pressure, and new classes and everything is so new an exciting, and even though near the end of the year you do get a little bored, it's still good, and you still keep doing new things.
I am so glad I did TY for the simple fact I have made so many new friends, all the people in my year that I never spoke to, I new speak to, and I have so many new good friends, so now when I go nto fifth year, any class I'm in I'm guaranteed to know somebody!
Now it's at the end of the year, I'll admit I am looking forward to it being over now, but when I look back over it I'll be glad i did it.
I've actually realised I'm pretty good at relying on myself for things, like I always made sure I did my projects, and I've gotten a lot more responsible about getting work done now, because in TY you aren't spoon fed, if you have your work good, if you don't tough, which will be a good thing to be used to in 5th year.
So overall, I loved it, even though I found it boring at times, I am happy I did it and if I had the choice I would definitely do it again!

Advice to incoming TYs?

Ok, this this month the blog challenge is to write post giving advice to incoming first years.
Well this is going to sound cliché regardless of how I try and phrase it, but here it goes!

-Well I don't know about you, but at the start of every year I promise myself I'm going to join a load of clubs and/or sports, and I never do, and a month later I go, "oh next year so" and it's a big vicious cycle, but seriously, you should use your TY to get involved in things, or you're going to be bored, like the point of the year is to do things we normally don't have time for, so take the opportunity while you can!
-IF you get an opportunity, just take it even if you're feeling lazy. Like do Gaisce if you want, apply to join the bank, student council, and if we get another musical, TY's always get most of the work because we have the most time!
- Ty has this habit of giving you all your projects at the same time, so one minutes you're bored, the next you're completely buried by it all, and I know that doing last minute work is a common thing - I've been doing it my whole life- but make sure you don't hand up rubbish, it stops you being too lazy and if you don't bother doing things you really will regret it..
- Talk to new people, like you actually do make so many more friends, but only if you don't completely restrict yourself to your normal group..
- HAVE FUN! Do remember, it is only TY, don't take everything too seriously, make sure its a year to remember :P

Well that was my cheeseball speech about what I would tell myself a year ago if I had the chance.

Random free class blog

Hey so I haven't blogged yet this week and it's Friday so I probably should..
Not a lot has happened this week, we haven't done any special activities or trips? For the last two classes today though Banba are having a party for the whole year, which should be good! :D
It's almost the end of the year, thank God! As much as I liked TY and everything I am happy for it to be finished, I think it's had it's time.. We're all preparing for TY night at the moment, which is going to be great hopefully! there are A LOT of dances going on, Charleston, Zumba, and our class ones and the whole year has to sing "Seasons of Love" from Rent the musical, I'm not too mad ont he song but I'm sure if I listen to it enough it will probably grow on me.

Well that's about it really it? I have a load of projects to do over the long weekend, FUN!

Bye :D

Retreat :D

Hey, so we went on our retreat, and Mrs. L said top make a motivational poster of something that stuck with us. This is what stuck with me, it's slightly depressing mind you but it think it's something we should all keep in mind yeah?

TY best moments :D

So one of Mrs. L's blog challenges was to right about your best moment in TY, but to be honest, I couldn't chose one? So I'm going to make a list of all the awesome things we have done so far:
- Braveforce Challenge
- Lollipop day
- Carlingford Trip
- Seeing Juno and the Paycock in the Abbey Theatre
- Our Social development day
- The percussion workshop
- The fun walk! (Which we should have won might I add)

Well those are my highlights, well the ones I can think of I'm sure there are probably more :)
Bye :D

Swim a mile with a smile!

Hey,
So tomorrow our whole year plus the LCVP's are doing the Ian Daly swim a mile challenge, in aid of children's cancer. I'm actually really excited for it! We're aloud do the swim in teams, up to teams of eight, but I've decided I'm going to do the whole mile myself for the challenge, though I'm pretty sure I'll be able to do it, I'm no too bad when it comes to swimming and its a worthwhile cause :D
The new bloggers a bit odd eh?
Right, I'll blog next week and let you know how it went!

Hola..

So one of Mrs. Leahy's blog challenges is to write a blog post in another language, and well to be honest, I'm absolutely desparate at Irish- always have been- so I'll do mine in Spanish. Unlike some of the LAZY people beside me, I will write mine with minimal aid of Google Translate.. So I'll talk about myself?

Hola.. Me llamo Aoife.

ADIOS!!

Left right left..

Well yesterday we went on the Braveforce challenge which was a 3.5km obsticle course, and it was so much fun! I'm a bit of pain mind you, but I'd do it again if I had the option. It was really tough work don't get me wrong, but it was just hilarious, we were all so messy that we didn't care what we looked like, after walking through rivers and puddles and climbing over walls, you tend not to care too much. Our school WON!! No we didn't.. The whole other group finished before any of our school did, but I didn't really do it as a race, I just did it because it was so fun.

Here's the website if you want to have a look :)

Rwanda "Sometimes in April"

So this week is actually really busy! Yesterday we watched a movie called "Sometimes in April". It was a movie about the civil unrest in Rwanda, it was really heavy but I'm glad we watched it because I never really knew that it even happened, which is pretty disgraceful on my part considering so many people died because of it. It was really eye opening, seeing how the UN handled it and everything, not interfering because there was little or no political gain, it really bothers me, but I suppose that means the movie worked.
Today we got our LC subject forms. Needless to say I'm panicing over this. I've chosen Tech, because well if i don't there will be no class and it was one of my choice more than likely anyway. Now I'm just stuck between Chemistry and Biology and  Business.. Stress of life. Tomorrow we have our assualt course aswell. That should be interesting to say the least...I'll blog about it when I've done it :)

Work experience!! :D

Hey :) I haven't blogged in a while because Blogger wasn't working properly on the school computers for some reason.. But I'm back! :D So last week was work experience, and I went to a Primary School which was really good! I was in the Junior infant class for the week. I actually forgot how often little kids tell on each other to the teacher! But It was really good because the kids were all really nice and all talked to me a lot, the teachers and staff were also really nice and made me feel really welcome.
Each day I got in at around 9am which is when the children all arrived; every morning the kids played games for about half an hour, and each morning I sat with a table and played a game with them. I don't think I can ever look at the game "Red Dog Blue Dog" the same again!

Then, they would start work and I would do different things everyday, sometimes I would get photocopying, sometimes I'd sort out their homework into their folders or sometimes I'd just help out by going around.
Each day at lunch I would go out to yard at the same time as the kids, I'd just kind of walk around and talk to all the children and listen to stories about who push who.

After school sometimes I went home with the Juniors at 1:40pm, but sometimes some of the teachers in the older classes asked us to help out with putting up or taking down displays on the notice boards around the school, which sometimes took quite a while and we wouldn't be leaving until about 3pm.

Overall, I had a really good time, the school were really welcoming and I learnt a lot about being a teacher that you didn't see when you were younger and in school and it was good to see and maybe now I'll consider a career in teaching.

Well that's all for now,

Pilgrimage day yeow..

So on Tuesday we all went on a pilgrimage to Kildare town, because it was saint Bridgid's day on February the first. First we went and watched a video about Kildare, there was a teleporting ghost in it.. That was interesting. Then we went to her church, which is now a protestant church. It was HUGE and we all got to ring the church bell and say a prayer, which I thought was very cool. Then I got to see St. Bridgid's 'Kitchen' which was basically an underground cave type room.
Then we went to see Bridgid's well, we had to bless ourself with the water and walk around the circle in the middle of it while saying a prayer. Then, there was a second well. In that well we walked around it while saying the rosary and then we said a prayer to Bridgid.
When that was finished, we all went to Kildare village, a outlet shopping mall/centre thing, and I got a starbuck and looked in a few shops and things.
I had a really good day, it was a pretty good experience and I'm glad to be able to say I've done it.

English Trip to Mullingar.

Hello :) Well on Tuesday we went on a trip to Mullingar to watch the rest of TY's plays, I was really sad about the fact we didn't get to do a play, but I suppose it's all in the past, no point complaining about it. :)
The first play was by Eriu, based on the poem "Midterm Break" by Seamus Heaney, if anybody doesn't know it, it's a poem about a child who is attending his five year old brothers funeral, who died in a car accident. It's probably one of my favourite poems, even though it's ridiculously sad but it just completely shocked me the first time I read it, I don't know it just kind of stuck.
The second play was by class Banba, it was about a girl Jenny, who was a bully that committed suicide. Jenny liked a boy called Tyler, who got another girl Amelia pregnant, and while at the start of the play all Jenny's friends were ganging up against Amelia, their loyalty changed swiftly. at the end, Jenny was taking a tablet for her headache, and while she was thinking about how much everyone now hated her and that the boy she liked didn't like her back, she overdosed and died. I really liked this play, because even though once again it was kind of depressing, it actually had some pretty funny moments .
The third play, was another play by Eriu. It was based on the song "Concrete Angel" by Martina MacBride, and let me point out it is one of the saddest songs ever. It is a song about child abuse, and about a little girl who had to pretend everyday that she was ok. The play started off by showing Holly, a little girl who had a very close relationship with her father, her father being completely oblivious to that fact that when he was not home, his wife beat Holly, but Holly passed off the bruises as a result of her "tripping". The teacher noticed bruises, but shrugged them off, the neighbours often heard noises but also just assumed it was nothing and ignored it and by the time Holly's father had realised what was happening, it was too late, and Holly was dead. The end of the play showed her father giving a speech at her funeral, about how if he had not been so naive Holly might be alive. Another pretty sad play..
The fourth play and final play, by class Banba also tackled the topic of bullying, by basing their play on the poem Titch Miller by Wendy Cope, by making the poem a diary entry in Tubby's (Titch's best friend) diary, which was then found by a stranger. It was about a girl, who had braces and glasses who was bullied for being different. She was always picked last for teams, mocked, etc... Then, when Tubby moved schools when she was eleven, she learnt how to stand up for herself, mocking "hockey players who could not spell" but Titch was not as fortunate, she was still bullied, and during her monologue she said she didn't think anyone would notice if she was gone, and then they told you that Titch was now dead, presumably by suicide.
There were other schools there, but I went to get lunch so I didn't get a chance to watch them, It was a really good day overall, I loved watching all my friends act out their plays, it kind of reminded me of the Sound Of Music to be honest. Good day!
Well that's all, I'll write again soon.

Aoife.

Blog Challenge time! :D

Sooo, I decided to do a blog challenge, because I'm a master procrastinator and it's a lot more fun than doing projects. So I'm doing to blog challenge:

"Write a blog post about somewhere that you would like to visit when you leave school"

Ok well there are so many places I would like to visit, but after I've finished school (and college) I really want to living abroad of travel abroad for a year? Well I've got like, a good few years left, and it will probably never happen, BUT the countries I would most like to go to for like a year would be:

1)Canada! Possibly Toronto? or Vancoover..

2) New York

3)LA

4)Chicago

5)Australia

I know, very original and out there... But before I die I plan on going to each of this countries/ cities. Well I've already been to NYC and Chicago, and I'm going back to Chicago this summer (BUZZ!) So I'm doing pretty alright.
Well that's all I can think of really, bit of a plan like. I'm thinking more short term at the moment, liek the fact my sister gave me permission to learn to drive in her car when she moves to Spain :D
Whoop whoop!
I'll probably end up doing another post..
So seeya in a minute?

Geography brochure yoke..

Soo, I'm in IT class. I've actually noticed that I don't have as many blog posts as I should, so I apologise in advance for blogging more than usual. I know that like twenty posts from me was probably more than enough.
Well I'm trying to do my geography project, and I'm having trouble finding "the perfect" disease to write about, just not feeling any of them? Which well I suppose if pretty lucky... but I actually meant in the sense that there are none, as of yet, I find interesting enough to actually write a brochure about. I'm pretty fussy about it though. I want to find one that nobody else is doing. I don't know. I should really stop putting so much effort into think about the project and actually just do it?
So the bell is about to go. I should probably publish this rather than add it to the piling list of drafts..

s'laters...
Aoife :D

Desert Flower

So we watched a movie called Desert Flower, which was based on the life of Waris Dirie (I think I spelt that right) who was a girl was ran away from home in Somalia after being arranged into a marriage she did not want, she had to walk for days to reach the capital to find her family who arranged for her to get a passport and to get her out of the country.  She moved to London to work as a cleaner in an embassy and was later homeless when the ambassador left. One day she met a friend and went to stay with her in her hostel, got a job working as a cleaner in fast food and started having a social life. Then she got picked up by a photographer and became a model, got famous and travelled around the world then when they found out her passport was out of date and that she was actually illegal, as she never got her passport renewed after she became homeless, so she married her neighbour to get citizenship. Then she became really famous, known world wide, and one day she did an interview, unlike all other stories about her being a nomad girl to super model, this one was her telling the world about how she was mutilated and how wrong female genital mutilation. Her story spread fast and eventually she was invited to speak out about it to the UN and started a movement to stop this happening to young girls.
Over all it was a very good movie, even though it had a very serious message it was funny at times and I would recommend it to watch if you're stuck for a movie :)

So we're back at school again, after two and a half weeks of actually getting sleep and being able to relax.. At the moment we have free Spanish in the computer room (Slightly obvious..) and because we just got back I have no projects or essays or any work due, just because I'm a model student... So i got back and checked my ClustrMap and I have a load of extra views? I think it's because we won ALL THOSE AWARDS! :D
I haven't got much to blog about really, just thought I should probably make a post, let you all know I'm alive and well? It's my birthday on Thursday!! So excited lads :D
